ABOUT
The Department provides an excellent education and research on the functions of the nervous systems with the help of animal models, plant cells and studies of human cognition. There are 42 faculty members, among them there are two Lithuanian Science Award winners - Prof. Osvaldas Rukšėnas and Prof. Aidas Alaburda, as well as 21 PhD student.
We offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Neurobiology and Biophysics as well as PhD in Biophysics. The department focuses on topical neuroscience themes: psychiatric disorders, cognition, electrophysiology, psychophysics, electrical signaling in plants and animal cells. In collaboration with Drs. T. Palenicek, M. Brunovsky and many young researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health (Klecany, Czech Republic) we evaluate effects of psychedelic drugs on brain's ability to follow periodic stimulation.
In collaboration with Drs. M. Binder and U. Gorska at Jagiellonian University (Krakow, Poland) we evaluate the potential use of auditory SSR as a biomarker of consciousness level in disorders of consciousness.
In collaboration with Drs. A. Dores and F. Barbosa at Porto University (Porto, Portugal) we elaborate ways to assess brain activity specific to gaming/gambling.
In collaboration with Drs. Y. Naruse and Y. Yokota at Center for Information and Neural Networks (Osaka, Japan) we develop neurobiofeedback system.
In collaboration with a team from Latvian Academy of Music (Riga, Latvia) and a team from the National Sun Yat-sen University (Kaohsiung, Taiwan) we develop a music-based biofeedback system.
In collaboration with Dr. J. Bjekic at University of Belgrade (Belgrade, Serbia) we investigate brain stimulation induced changes in EEG.
In collaboration with Dr. C. Saavedra from Valparaiso University (Valparaiso, Chile) we elaborate novel indexes for evaluation of auditory SSRs.
In collaboration with Dr. G.Wang from Auckland University of Technology (Auckland, New Zealand) we investigate changes in brain electrical activity occurring in various addictions.
In collaboration with Dr. J. Burkauskas at the Labaratory of Behavioral Medicine of Neuroscience Institute of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (Palanga, Lithuania) we evaluate brain changes during associated with excessive internet use.
