We invite you to a lecture by Dr. Laura Bojarskaite from the University of Oslo, titled "Imaging cortical blood vessel dynamics in natural sleep in health and disease"
Location: R101
ABSTRACT
This lecture will cover the imaging of cortical blood vessel and astrocyte activity across entire sleep-wake cycle using headfixed two-photon microscopy, head-mounted mini2p and mesoscale imaging. I will then share some of our findings on
This lecture will cover the imaging of cortical blood vessel and astrocyte activity across entire sleep-wake cycle using headfixed two-photon microscopy, head-mounted mini2p and mesoscale imaging. I will then share some of our findings on
-
Astrocyte calcium signaling during sleep and its role in slow-wave sleep regulation;
-
Artery dynamics during sleep and its role in brain waste clearance;
-
Ongoing research on blood vessel dynamics in a mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease;
-
and, if time permits, The role of the aquaporin-4 water channel in vascular dynamics.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
A neuroscientist, lecturer, and science communicator, Dr. Laura Bojarskaite earned her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Vilnius University, a master’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Copenhagen, and a PhD in neuroscience from the University of Oslo. Her research focuses on sleep and its importance in "brain cleansing"—the removal of waste and toxic substances from the brain, a process crucial for preventing neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Bojarskaite’s findings in sleep research have been published in prestigious scientific journals, such as Nature Communications, and featured in international popular science news platforms, including Technology Networks and Neuroscience News and Research. She is also actively engaged in science communication, with her lectures, radio interviews, video reports, and articles available at https://linktr.ee/LauraNeuroTalks. Additionally, she teaches the neuroscience of meditation at a yoga school.
