A delegation from Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), South Korea, visited the VU Life Sciences Center (LSC). The aim of the visit was to foster partnerships and strengthen academic and research collaboration between institutions.
The President of POSTECH University Dr. Seong Keun Kim, Vice President of International Relations Prof. Sungmin Park, Director of International Relations Mr. Junki Ahn, Assistant Manager of International Relations Ms. Yujin Kim and Director of the Center for Quantum Dynamics Prof. Taiha Joo were welcomed by the Director of the LSC Dr. Kastis Krikštopaitis, as well as the researchers of the Center. The main purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the state-of-the-art equipment of the LSC laboratories and to identify areas of mutual interest that could lead to significant cooperation projects and initiatives.
During the visit, the POSTECH delegation met with LSC scientists and researchers to discuss opportunities for joint scientific projects. Dr. Martynas Simanavičius, Senior Researcher at the Department of Immunology, provided an overview of the research being carried out, including the antibody libraries developed by the scientists, and the various collaborative projects with the healthcare sector and industry. Later, the guests met with Dr. Marius Dagys and Dr. Dalius Ratautas, Senior Researchers in the Department of Bioanalysis. The scientists presented their research on the development of science-based equipment for the health sector - glucose, amino acid and other detectors. Finally, the guests from South Korea visited the laboratory of Dr. Linas Mažutis, where they were introduced to microfluidic technologies and the group's fundamental and applied research.
The meetings with the scientists focused on how the unique strengths and expertise of both institutions can be used to address global scientific and technological challenges.
The LSC and POSTECH share a common commitment to academic excellence and innovation. This visit is anticipated to be the beginning of a long-term partnership.
