The Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC) Council has elected Dr. Arvydas Lubys as the new Director of the Center during today’s session via a secret ballot. The new Director will assume his role upon approval by the VU Rector.
In the race for the position, Dr. Arvydas Lubys secured 8 votes from LSC Council members, surpassing Dr. Vytautas Smirnovas, who received 2 votes, and Prof. Sonata Jarmalaitė, who received 1 vote.
During earlier public debates, the newly elected Director emphasized his focus on management efficiency, clear strategic plans, and resource mobilization. He highlighted the need for structural integration of the institutes and the application of best business management practices to enhance LSC’s operations.
Dr. Lubys graduated from the then Faculty of Natural Sciences at Vilnius University in 1986 and defended his doctoral dissertation externally in 1997. His career includes roles as a researcher at the Institute of Biotechnology, Head of the Research Center at UAB Fermentas, Deputy Director for Science, and various senior leadership positions at UAB Thermo Fisher Scientific Baltics, including R&D Director for Molecular Biology Business and Senior Director.
Currently, Dr. Arvydas Lubys serves as a member of the Board of the Lithuanian Research Council and as Chairman of the Knowledge Economy Forum Council.
