The Electoral Commission of the Life Sciences Center (LSC) made its decision based on p. 18 of the Regulations of the Institute of Biotechnology of the Life Sciences Center of Vilnius University (hereinafter referred to as the Regulations).
In accordance with p. 19 of the Regulations, the results of the election of the Director shall be communicated in written form to the Director of the LSC no later than the next working day. If, by a reasoned decision, the Director of the LSC does not submit the nomination of the Director-elect to the LSC Council for approval, or if the Council does not approve the nomination by a simple majority, the contract of employment of the Director-elect of the Institute shall not be concluded. The Council shall call for a new election of the Director. Pending the election of the Director of the Institute, the Director of the LSC shall propose to the Rector the assignment of an acting Director from the staff of the IBT.

The election of the Director of the IBT was accompanied by the election of three elected members of the IBT Board, in accordance with p. 29 of the Regulations of the Institute of Biotechnology of the Life Sciences Center of Vilnius University. Gintautas Tamulaitis (56.18% of the votes cast) and Mindaugas Zaremba (56.18% of the votes cast) have been elected to the Board of the Institute. The third candidate, Indrė Dalgėdienė, received 46.07% of the votes, which is less than half of the total IBT electorate, and is therefore considered as not elected to the IBT Board.
