A delegation from the German research center DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron), a global leader in particle physics and accelerator technology, recently visited the Life Sciences Center (LSC).
Vilnius marked the third stop on their tour of the Baltic countries, following visits to Tallinn and Riga. At the Life Sciences Center, the seven-member DESY team was welcomed by VU Vice-Rector for Science, Prof. Edita Sužiedelienė, together with LCS Director Dr. Kastis Krikštopaitis, Dr. Arvydas Lubys, and other researchers. Prof. Edita Sužiedelienė and Dr. Arvydas Lubys introduced the delegation to the key research areas and projects currently underway at Vilnius University. DESY's Chairman of the Board of Directors, Prof. Helmut Dosch, gave a presentation about DESY’s capabilities and ongoing initiatives and expressed a strong interest in fostering closer collaboration with Lithuanian scientific institutions.
The visit also included a productive discussion between DESY representatives and researchers from the VU Life Sciences Center, exploring potential areas of cooperation and ways to strengthen scientific collaboration. The visit concluded with a tour of the LSC laboratories, led by Dr. Giedrė Tamulaitienė and Dr. Giedrius Sasnauskas, where the guests were given a more detailed overview of the research being conducted at the center.
