The Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC) had the privilege of welcoming Luca Lastrucci, the General Manager and Global Head for Medico Marketing and Sales at Menarini, an Italian pharmaceutical company, along with Corporate Director Piero Rijli.

Accompanied by representatives from Invest Lithuania, the visitors were keen to explore the cutting-edge research being conducted at VU LSC and its potential applications in the pharmaceutical industry. Vice Director Prof. Vytautė Starkuvienė-Erfle provided an insightful overview of the Life Sciences Center, outlining its formation, organizational structure, primary research areas, and its capacity for training highly skilled students.

A number of researchers from the Center presented their work, including Dr Julija Armalytė, Dr Alisa Gricajeva and Kotryna Čekuolytė. Their research encompasses significant studies on bacterial pathogenicity, molecular mechanisms of antibiotic resistance and bacterial biofilm inactivation. These topics were of particular interest to representatives from Menarini due to their relevance to the pharmaceutical sector. Furthermore, Professor Daumantas Matulis presented his department’s innovative research on the organic synthesis of compounds and drug design, with the objective of developing drugs with minimal toxicity, in alignment with modern pharmaceutical requirements. The Menarini team was highly impressed by the wealth of information, state-of-the-art facilities, and the presence of highly skilled researchers and students, recognising the potential for future collaboration and employment opportunities.
