The new International Advisory Board of Vilnius University Life Sciences Center (VU LSC) has started its work. During the first meeting, its members, together with the VU LSC management, discussed the past year's trends and future perspectives of the LSC. The members of the International Advisory Board also provided valuable insights on how to improve the financial and administrative management of the Center, increase internationalization, and strengthen relations with social partners.
Prof. Dr. Peter Becker (Germany), Chair of the Biomedical Center (BMC) Munich at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU), also serving as the chair of the EMBL Council, Prof. Dr. habil. Janusz Marek Bujnicki (Poland), Head of a research group at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw and a member of the European Commission's Group of Chief Scientific Advisers, Prof. Andres Metspalu (Estonia), Head of the Estonian Biobank, professor at University of Tartu, Prof. Poul Nissen (Denmark), Head of the "Nordic-EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine", Danish Research Institute of Translational Neuroscience – DANDRITE, professor at University of Aarhus, Dr. Anna Olsson (Portugal), a Researcher and Group Leader at i3S-Institute for Research and Innovation in Health, University of Porto, Prof. Taina Pihlajaniemi (Finland), a Vice Rector (research), University of Oulu took part in a meeting live, while Dr. Heiko Runz (US), a Senior Medical Director, Head of Human Genetics at Biogen, Boston, joined remotely.
The International Advisory Council of the VU Life Sciences Center is a group of world-renowned scientists whose recommendations will help to achieve world-class research and greater international recognition. It consists of seven members appointed for a five-year term. The International Advisory Council of the VU Life Sciences Center was first formed at the end of 2017. The new Council was formed in the autumn of 2023.
